Many years ago I dreamed about building a platform to track civic/government events and making this information accessible to people through a single phone app that doesn't track users, nor advertise to them ~ MnActivist.org .

But it is impossible for one person to maintain a database for all of the cities, counties, school boards, and more in a particular state!

SOLUTION: teach youth to code through MnActivist and eventually employ them to do so through a completely transparent non-profit that is run by black, indigenous and black/indigenous women.

I got the non-profit registered in the State of Minnesota , and the paperwork ready to submit for the IRS, but I don't have the $275 needed to apply. The remainder of the funds will pay for two laptops for a black woman in Minneapolis and another black woman here in Medellin, that they might better do their work from their chosen location.

We will begin teaching youth at a Minneapolis high school in a few weeks.

We will conduct sessions three days per week as a part of their Connected Community program.

We are also starting a program to connect youth at the Minneapolis Urban League with youth in Medellin, Colombia. Through this program we will be teaching basic computer skills, as a first step to more advanced coding skills using MnActivist.

After we are able to apply for, and hopefully receive, 501c3 status we will begin applying for grants.

At maturity, I hope for MnActivist to be supported by the community - who will be able to personalize their event feed according to their interests. I also hope to expand the platform's offerings to include data analysis and visuals. As well as, create an application specific for organizational use.

In this manner, I hope to create a pipeline for youth into the tech sector through real-world documented experience.

You can check out the code, curriculum and organizing documents for ScreamFreely at GitHub  and get some super cool apparel at our TeeSpring store

I am not directly receiving, nor using any of the funds received from this fundraiser. The first $275 will be used to submit a 1023EZ form to the IRS, and the remainder will go to support our team in Minneapolis and Medellin.
