Mitch's Story

Mitch is an incredible guy—someone you can always count on; a man who will pick you up in a snowstorm, help you move, spend days painting your new house, brush the snow off of your car just to be nice, make you laugh, approach every situation with positivity, and drop everything to help someone in need. Now Mitch and his beautiful family need your help.

On May 7, 2014 Mitch was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and was immediately admitted to Swedish American Hospital for intensive chemotherapy. After another round of chemotherapy in July, Mitch received a stem cell transplant in September 2014.

Nearly a year later to the day, Mitch’s leukemia relapsed. On April 28, 2015, Mitch and his family received the news of the relapse and he was admitted to UW the next day. After a long stint at UW, Mitch achieved remission, was able to spend a little time with family, and is on his way back for the stem cell transplant in July.

About the Virens

Mitch and Holly met in grade school and were best friends from the get-go. Best friends turned to dating years later and they married in 2007. They have one adorable 3-year-old son, Harrison, and a great dog, Buster.

Let's support this wonderful family the only way the Virens know how—with lots of fun, laughter and, whether we’ve met you before or not, friendship.

A Few Giving Options
Please feel free to give if you can and whatever you are comfortable with. No pressure. There are a couple of options to make it a little easier.

1) Make a donation to attend the Mitchapalooza: Viren Family Fun Day  on August 8, 2015 (food and games provided). $20 per adult, $10 for kids 6-12, $5 for kids 2-5. Family rate of $50 (please remember this is a fundraiser for a family with serious need so the family rate applies to immediate family--parents and children under the age of 17). Feel free to make a donation of any size in addition to your admission to the day.

Please note in the comments 'Fun Day' so we can properly account for food/games for you on the day. Print/bring out your acknowledgement with you on August 8. (unfortunately, we cannot accommodate refunds if you are unable to attend).

Share that you are attending on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, via email/phone/carrier pigeon! Spread the word!

2) Make a donation of any size to the family without attending the August 8 date.  Share, share, share this page so others can help support the Virens.

3) If you are unable to attend August 8 and are unable to donate (we understand!), please take a moment to share this page and/or the Mitchapalooza Viren Family Fund Day Facebook page  on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, via email/phone/carrier pigeon! Spread the word about the day and about supporting the Virens.

THANK YOU. Our family is so appreciative of your support and we are looking forward to a great family fun day in honor and support of Mitch, Holly, Harrison, and Buster!

Always smiling--always having a little fun :)

Mitch is receiving life-saving treatment made possible by research through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Join us for the Light the Night Walk, too, October 10 at Martin Park!
