Missy promised Sadie a trip to Disney World. And we are going to make sure to see it through!

Missy has an amazing support team that has been asking how to help, this is it.  Please help the Hickcox Family make wonderful memories together.

As soon as Missy has her medical schedule set we will need to act quickly to book reservations as early as possible.

Please help relieve the financial burdan of this trip by making any contribution you can.

Souvenirs, etc.

Life can change in an instant....
Journal entry by Melissa Hickcox — October 22nd Post

For me, I thought that instant was July 31, 2015 when they called to say I had Rhabdomyosarcoma. I begin treatment quickly. Although difficult, treatment progressed positively and I was glad to be over with it. My hair is growing back, I'm back at work, Sadie's in pre - k. And despite some back pain and fatigue, life has slowly begun to return to normal.
The back pain began back in July. I tried a multitude of things, finally seeing a chiropractor. But even that didn't seem to be doing it. I wrote my oncologist last weekend and let him know about the back pain and weakness in my right leg.

Long story short, I got an MRI done of the complete spine on Thursday and Friday, Oct.21 my life changed in an instant again!
I have what they call "drop metasis" where particles of my original tumor may have spread through spinal fluid to my spine and began to grow there.
I have small tumors between my shoulder blades and on my lumbar spine. Fragments of tumors may be at the base of my spine which is causing the difficulty with my leg.

Based on the tumors location, and the fact that it metastasized so quickly, makes my prognosis not very good.
They plan on doing some chemotherapy and radiation, either separate or combined (TBD) to slow it down.
Right now, it looks as though I may be looking at three months to a year. It is considered terminal.

My oncologist sat and held my hand this morning, assuring me it's nothing that I did and told me what his tentative plan is. Hes going to get the pain and palliative care team involved with me (setting up documents like advanced directives, wills, etc) as well as some things for my family. (i.e. making birthday cards, videos, etc for my family to have when my time on this earth is over.)

This has all been very hard to take. I appreciate all the calls, texts, emails, etc. We are still figuring out our plan and what we need but I will let you know when I know. For now, please pray for my family, strength for my husband, and understanding for my children. I love you all so very much and am blessed to have you in my life.

I just want to grow old with my husband and watch my babies grow up. Life just isn't fair sometimes, but I'm blessed to have had a beautiful life so far.
