This campaign was started so that we continue to collect funds and bring some light and love to the homeless of Georgia. We are grateful in advance for your support!
"I really appreciate what you do for us" is a very common thing we hear at Mission Dawgs, an organization I started in January of 2016. Our mission? To support as much of the homeless population of Georgia by providing them with basic human needs like food, clothing and toiletries. What inspired me to start this organization and now this campaign? A moment that I bet will be with me until I take my last breath:
I came across a few men sitting on a street in Atlanta one day, "How y'all getting along?" I asked them.
One of the guys said, “Not sure yet, they have not opened the doors to the shelter, and we probably can't get in because it fills up quick". I reached out to shake their hands and said my name is Kevin Weakley. One man reached out and shook my hand and said, "My name is Steve; it's nice to meet you."
I said, "I have something I would like to give y'all. If y'all are cool with that."
I handed each one a “Goodness Bag.” Steve saw the $5.00 Dollar bill and smiled at me. He asked, "what else is in here?" He looked inside the bag and found gloves, socks, toothpaste and other necessary items that so many of us take for granted.
"Y'all gonna be alright" I asked, as I reached out to shake his hand again. He looked
me square in the eye and said, "Kevin I don't want to shake your hand...can I hug you?" He put his arms around me and said, "Thanks man. You don't know, you just don't know! Thank You so much!"
I realized in that moment that I didn’t know what had brought these men to the streets
and exactly how I could help, but that I had to keep doing my little part. Mission Dawgs is all about these little moments of support. We’re bringing a bit of possibility to communities very much in need. Between feeding people in soup kitchens and handing
out “Goodness bags” such as the ones mentioned above, we’ve been helping about 800 people a week, and we need your help to keep doing this important work.
