Miss Wendy's House

Wendy Winspear passed away on Monday night, 19/12/16, suddenly and unexpectedly. Wendy was an inspiration to all who knew her, and we would like to honour her life's work with the special education unit of Highland Reserve State School.
Officially, she was the head of special education services, to her students, she was known as Miss Wendy and her room was often a safe place where disadvantaged children with learning or behavioural challenges would go to see Wendy, where she would calm them down, provide loving support, play uno or backgammon with them, and least of all advocate relentlessly on their behalf, always striving for the best possible outcome. Her place of work became known as Miss Wendy's House and she had all sorts of games and toys, not to mention a fantastic team which she helped build. The rumour among the kids was that Wendy actually lived in that building (after all it had a kitchen), even on the holidays. Her thoughts were often with her students and she invested a great deal of herself in her work, it was a true labor of love. Her beautiful nature and firm yet kind manner extended to all around her. She was such a loving mother to both of her children and parter to Neil, and we feel it was an honour and a privilege to share her with you all.
Her death, sudden and unexpected, breaks so many hearts and leaves an enormous void in the lives of so many. Her family respectfully request that instead of sending flowers, a donation of any amount be made to assist with costs involved with raising a memorial in her honour at the school, to sponsor a "Miss Wendy Award" and any further funds which will support the causes of children of which she would have been a champion for.
The public funeral/wake will be held at the Southport Yacht Club in Main Beach on the Tuesday the 27th of December, 330pm till late. All are welcome, as Wendy would say, the more the merrier.
