Miss Lizzy’s Disaster Recovery
Donation protected
Victorian era expert Lisa Ashton has been collecting clothing, jewelry, furniture, photos, books, and ephemera for several years as Miss Lizzy’s Traveling Historical Fashion Show (a 501c3 non-profit organization). She takes her collection on the road to give talks and provide a hands on experience with the items in her collection. She had the collection of several thousand items set up as Miss Lizzy’s Parlor in her home in Harper’s Ferry, WV, welcoming many visitors over the years to use her collections for research.
On May 16, 2018, she suffered a catastrophic loss when several days of torrential rains overcame her pumping system and the collection was flooded with 3 feet of water.
She will require extensive repairs to the space, mold remediation, and disaster recovery conservation treatment for any items that can be saved. The full extent of the loss and costs are not yet known because water is still being pumped out of the space, so assessment by experts is not yet complete. We are asking for $10,000 to help her immediately begin the work of recovery.
