Misha's Sciatica Relief

On November 6, my wife Misha woke up with excruciating pain running from the base of her spine all the way down her left leg. She hadn't lifted anything, or fallen, or anything else traumatic; for all we could tell, this began entirely at random. A trip to the ER got her a diagnosis of sciatica: intense pain caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, likely from a herniated disc in the spine.
We began a course of painkillers and physical therapy. Things were getting much better, but the evening of December 9, Misha suffered a flare-up just as random and even more intense than the initial onset. We went to the ER again, starting the process all over from worse than square one.
Our insurance does a great job for medications, but our deductible is very high for acute care like the ER. Emergency credit in the form of a home equity line would have been sufficient to absorb the first ER visit and a modest course of PT, but this one-two punch in the midst of the holiday season is proving very hard for us to keep up with. It's especially worrisome given we have no idea how long it will be until Misha is pain-free again, or how likely it might be we'll need to make still more agonizing trips to the hospital.
We're looking into the possibility of breaking up the ER charges into a payment plan. Successful fundraising would keep us from going deeper into debt or having to further put off necessary household expenses, like car repairs and furnace maintenance, that we'd been hoping to tackle before all this happened.
