Mill Village Farms is transforming vacant properties into bountiful gardens to grow locally-sourced produce for communities that often have limited access to fresh and local foods. Mill Village Farms also serves as a youth development program by training and employing at-risk teens.
Mill Village Farms’ vision is to empower youth through experiences in basic job skills, sustainable agriculture, and entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, youth serve their community by growing fresh and healthy food for various mobile markets, farmers markets, restaurants, and grocery stores.
Tabita had her first job at Mill Village Farms this past summer. She’s grown up in the West Greenville community and is passionate about giving back to her neighborhood. Throughout her summer, she not only learned the value of work, she also was exposed to numerous impactful experiences, including a camping trip, a personal finance program, college & healthcare tours, a cooking & nutrition program, and hearing weekly from community leaders on their career journeys. Her experience at Mill Village has had a transformative experience on her future. “Mill Village Farms showed me how to be responsible, to show up on time, to be organized, to take initiative, and to be kind and respectful to my co-workers. I now work at a local restaurant and my current employer was shocked on how much I learned through Mill Village Farms!”
