Milling Manor Inc Fundraising
http://www.mmiservices.org We are raising funds to support services to developmentally disabled adults that are in excess of what Medicaid provides. We offer opportunities to learn through weekly classes, opportunities to volunteer in the community through a Community Engagement and Enrichment group. We often have expenses which are not covered by Medicaid such as paper products, hygiene products for our residential facilities. We also need to provide orthopaedic shoes to replace those that wore out prematurely. Replacements are not covered before one year. We need to replace glasses which get lost or broken and are not covered before one year, and dentures which are damaged, destroyed, or lost which cannot be replaced before ten years. We also provide opportunities to go to camps and events where members can engage groups of people in a social setting. Currently in North Carolina there is a very long wait list to be placed on state sponsored support funding for services which is actually a wait list in itself. It can take almost a decade for a developmentally disabled adult to receive full funding and services they qualify for. Of our local population around 10-12% have identified in studies as developmentally disabled, yet less than half have even sought to receive services and there is a great need to increase services available. Many do not qualify for day programs and sit idle for hours on end if supports from our agency were not in place. We also require additional funding to maintain vehicles, residences, and to provide staffing at a higher level than what the daily state sponsored rate provides payment for to ensure the safety and success of our members. Thank you for considering our agency for your donation.+ Read More
2018 was a mixed year. We had one group home resident become independent and he was able to move to his own apartment, and one independent living adult had surgery and was unable to return to independent living due to unexpected complications and had to stay at the nursing home. We continue to strive to provide adults with developmental disabilities as many opportunities as possible to achieve the highest level of independence they are able to achieve. We appreciate your support in assisting where federal and state programs fall short.
