On Monday, March 19, 2018 the Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society’s (MRAS) multi-purpose arena was compromised and as a result a significant portion of the roof collapsed. Thankfully no one was inside or hurt when the incident occurred.
The arena has also been an integral venue for the Priddis & Millarville Fair, which celebrates its 111th year in 2018 and for the Christmas Market, held in early November each year. Both of these annual events bring significant revenue back into the organization.
History, OUR PAST, OUR FUTURE
The Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society has been in existence for more than one hundred years, its origins older than the province of Alberta itself.
Our non-profit Society has flourished and grown through the last century because we have always taken pride in providing programs and facilities for the young people in our community, many of whom have parents, grandparents and great-grandparents who had served faithfully as members and volunteers in earlier eras, setting an example for the next generation to follow.
Our vision is one that could have been written in those opening moments in 1905, when we say we want to be “an organization in which all members take pride and ownership in a self-sustaining, progressive and dynamic centre for the community, that preserves its history, traditions and natural environment to promote rural and agricultural experiences in a welcoming and co-operative manner.”
Future
Agricultural societies operate about 700 community facilities throughout Alberta, and collectively have more than 65,000 volunteers who support activities and MRAS is apart of that excitement portrayed in the Millarville and surrounding area.
As we are well into our 2018 event season which represents over 114 years of operations, we look forward to the future generation of users and attendees to our facilities. To that end, we are building a building that will last longer and have more opportunity for increased user group opportunities which include:
Farm recreation
Agricultural tourism
Festivals
Horse and livestock shows
4-H groups
Horse jumping
Auctions
Youth events – junior riders
Horse Clinics
Please join the family and helps rebuild history with a new building to continue on years of traditions and allow future generations to continue on with our traditions.
