This is Miley. Miley is strong, smart and beautiful. Miley has had trauma and needs our help. This is Miley's story:
Miley is an awesome 7 year old girl. Miley likes to sing and dance. She likes to play legos and loves to swim. Miley can do most things your average 7 year old can do. Except feel love, safety and security. Miley came to me at age 3 as a foster kid. She was placed into care at age 2 and due to her high emotional needs was moved home to home a few times before coming to me, where she was adopted at age four. She suffers from Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), which is a rare but serious mental condition that develops in kids who experience significant trauma between the ages of birth and 3 years old. This results in an inability to understand love, safety and security. These children are hypervigilant and incapable of trusting and bonding to a caregiver, which causes them to have very serious emotional regulation conditions. Miley has heard voices telling her to kill me and detailing the steps of how to do it. Miley bangs her head on walls to stop them. She has started to hurt animals in an effort to keep herself from hurting me. Her heart tells her no, but her brain tells her that family=danger. Miley was accepted into the Institute for Attachment and Child Development in Colorado. I am bringing her there on Monday. Because insurance covers a very miniscule amount, the total after insurance and her adoption subsidy leaves me with a $4000/month obligation. I am determined get this care for her to save my family, and if you can help in any way, you will have my eternal gratitude. She needs the institute to help her understand love. Please help me save my child. Below is a link to the institue, where you can learn more about RAD as well as a clip from the Today show, where Miley's story and Miley herself have a little cameo!

Seeing my little girl yesterday in therapy made me miss her that much more. The good news??? Next week we are going to talk about a visit soon!! It has already been two months since my last visit and she has grown and changed so much. Working in social services I see and hear families who are struggling with emotionally struggling kiddos and I feel so grateful that I have the knowledge and experience I have that lost parents don't, and that I am in a position to share it with them. I also feel extra blessed that my child gets a chance so many others don't, and I get to see it working in her every day!

Hi supporters!! I wanted to drop a line and let you know that Miley is making AMAZING changes! In the last few weeks she has:
Brushed her hair independently!
Completed homework without a behavior!
Voluntarily told the truth when she made a mistake!
Still out of pull-ups!
I hope you all know that this would not have been possible without your financial support. Without your emotional support. When I get a message from someone I have never met halfway around the world that supports my family, it truly helps keep me going. You have no idea how amazing you all are!!! Thank you for helping my little girl!

Miley had a much better week this week! She has been working really hard on being honest and understanding that just because she slips up doesn't mean she has to throw everything away. We're working really hard on teaching her that family relationships are genuine, not superficial. The last week has shown me that my daughter wants to be a family kid and she wants to work hard and come home! We can't wait for that day! Thank you all so much for your kind words and financial support through this time. TEAM MILEY!!

I am sorry I haven't posted an update in awhile!! After my visit down there for therapy, Miley has not been wetting her pants as much! She quit wearing pull-ups and has only peed herself two times! Before she left it was anywhere from 1-6 times a day. That is huge! She is struggling with other behaviors but is starting to put together why she does them. I cant believe it's been three months!. Thank you all for continuing to check for updates, send messages and help us fundraise for Miley!!
