Mike Smith Stroke Recovery Fund

On January 19, 2017, Michael Smith (“Mike Smith”) began to experience medical symptoms that were not recognized on the date as life threatening. Mike was dizzy, vomiting, unable to stand, and experienced numbness in his arm.  Mike visited Nason Hospital after being unable to work while at work (experienced difficulty standing, extreme dizziness, and feelings of nausea). Mike was misdiagnosed with Vertigo. Mike went home and began to experience more severe symptoms. This is the last memory that Mike reports having before not being able to remember what happened next.



On January 21, 2017, Mike’s wife Stacy called an ambulance during the late hours of the night. Mike at that point was not coherent and Stacy was now beyond concerned. Within hours, Mike was in the care of the ICU at Altoona Hospital after receiving a major brain surgery and was placed on a vent. Mike had suffered from a cerebellar stroke that had caused a clot and brain bleed. Mike was in a medically induced coma for several days.


Mike is currently still in the ICU, continues to heal, and will need future care. Current plans include Mike staying in the ICU for a couple for days and will then be moved into a different level of care. Mike will then need to receive rehabilitation from Health South, other future medical care and check-ups, and continued community support. This fund is to help Mike, Stacy, and Parker to progress into the future with a little aid to help ease the burden of their current medical costs, future medical costs, rehabilitation, and current day to day support.


Mike is 34 years old, a husband, a father, and a hard worker. Mike loves to play the guitar, work on computers, mountain bike, exercise, fish, collect guns, and be outdoors. Let us raise some money to also help him get back to doing some of these things that he loves to do. Mike is “one of the best” and really does deserve any support that he should receive.
