Michael Calva - Motorcycle Accident Recovery

Donation protected
On September 4, 2019, Michael Calva experienced the unimaginable. Michael had planned to enjoy a leisurely motorcycle ride north through Stillwater and Taylors Falls. Unfortunately, that ride was cut short in Oakdale when Michael was struck by a school bus through no fault of his own. As one would imagine, Michael’s injuries were and are extensive but through the grace and mercy of God, Michael still has his life. His testimony through this test will be mighty.

To-date, Michael has undergone four surgeries to correct multiple fractures in his leg, foot and shoulder. These procedures required the use of at least 6 plates and upwards of 42 screws to reconstruct and restore his shattered bones. Additionally, he sustained a traumatic brain injury and experienced mild bleeding on his brain. Michael was recently discharged from the hospital to a transitional care facility. It is undetermined how long this phase of his recovery will last. Once Michael is discharged from transitional care, he will be able to return home but will remain wheelchair bound for an extended period.

Michael and his loving wife, Mary, are planners but who can plan for such devastation? Mary has taken an indefinite leave of absence from her employment to ensure she’s able to be by Michael’s side during this difficult time. Michael is out of work indefinitely. His disability insurance will only cover 60% of his salary. From the disability benefit, he will be required to continue paying his full healthcare premium.  Of course, ongoing medical insurance is necessary for Michael to continue receiving the medical treatment necessary to heal his numerous injuries. In addition to the monthly medical premium, the out-of-pocket charges will be mounting including the $420 per month charge for transitional care services – a charge that is not covered by his medical insurance. To comfortably transition home, he will need modifications to his home including but not limited to: a wheelchair ramp and hand rails into his home, accessibility equipment for showering/bathing and an accessible vehicle to get to and from his many upcoming medical appointments.

Michael and Mary are giving, selfless people. Aside from being devoted parents to their 4 beautiful children and nurturing grandparents to their 8 grandchildren, Michael and Mary have committed their time to sharing the word of God with others.  This couple that has blessed so many now needs your help. Please donate to Michael and Mary as you are able. Without your help, they will be unable to bear this financial strain to their resources.

We also ask for your continued prayers. We want to thank God for sparing Michael and for the expeditious healing that has happened thus far. Please pray that God will continue to heal Michael. We ask that God continue to provide guidance to the members of Michael’s care team and that God will continue to provide Michael and Mary with the strength they need to overcome any obstacles they may encounter during this season.

On behalf of Michael and Mary Calva, we thank you for your prayers and your donations.
