Midland Railway's Track Repairs

Tax deductible
Since 1987, Midland Historic Railway Association has been perserving railroading history. We do this by acquiring, restoring, and operating historically significant railroad artifacts. That's right - this museum runs down our 11 miles of railroad track between Baldwin City and Ottawa, Kansas.

The Midland hosts over 25,000 guests from every state and over 15 countries generating over $1.5MM of economic impact, every year.

On August 22, 2017, 1.6 miles of our track sustained major damages due to severe weather. Our insurance protected our equipment, but not our track. For the safety of our passengers, the south half of the track has been closed until repairs can be completed.

To repair all 1.6 miles, it will cost $379,500. Our goal of $85,000 will allow us to make repairs to the north half of our track. Currently, it's like driving down a road with pot-holes and it will only get worse over time. Not only is this not enjoyable for our passengers, it accelerates the wear and tear on our historic engines and passenger cars.

Our customers have been very understanding, and our amazing volunteers are making all the minor repairs that are possible without the specialized equipment and skills necessary to complete the more challenging work on the 1.6 miles of damaged track.
