Our beloved Michaela was recently diagnosed with a form of cancer known as Hodgkin Lymphoma. If there's anyone we know that can beat cancer, it's Michaela! Our hope is to use this page to raise money to help her cover medical expenses and living expenses, while she's busy kicking cancer's tail. Every dollar donated will go directly to Michaela.
Her Story:
Michaela was born and raised in Central Indiana. After high school, she chose to go to Anderson University and major in Social Work and minor in Spanish.
In April, she traveled to Honduras with her social work class from AU. While on the trip, she noticed a lump on her neck and a PA suggested she get it checked out back in the states. When Michaela returned home, she went to the ER and within hours was given a preliminary diagnosis of cancer. By the end of the week, she had started her first round of chemo, just two days before her graduation ceremony.
Fortunately, Hodgkin Lymphoma is highly treatable. Michaela will undergo chemo for 4-6 months. The average cost of cancer treatment can range anywhere from $10,000 - $200,000 (give or take a few thousand). While insurance will help cover some of these costs, there will be many out of pocket expenses during the course of her treatment.
About Michaela:
-Has a heart of gold and truly wants to serve others.
-Graduated from college on Saturday, May 5, just two days after her first round of chemo.
-Loves all things NYC and wants to live there one day.
-Loves Law & Order: SVU. In fact, she loves Olivia Benson so much, she named her dog "Benson".
-Loves to travel! She's been to Africa, Greece, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, just to name a few.
-Has worked at Texas Roadhouse for 5 years . Mmm can you say honey butter?
- Is an amazing friend, aunt, sister, daughter, niece, roommate, and all around strong female and wonderful person who needs our support.
