I’ve wanted to be a commercial airline pilot since I was three years old.  My parents exposed me to everything that involved flight, airplanes, airports, and museums.  You name it they took me. I worked very hard to maintain a straight-A average while being involved in school activities. I’ve been on the honor roll since sixth grade in addition to volunteering and mentoring incoming sixth graders. I thought that if I worked hard my efforts would pay off and they did.

I applied to four-year colleges that offered degrees in Aviation Engineering. (University North Dakota, Minnesota State University, Purdue, Western Michigan, and Ohio State University) at the beginning of my senior year.  I couldn’t go to an in-state college because no colleges in Wisconsin have an Aviation Engineering program. I maintained a 4.2 GPA and I was accepted by all of them.  I decided to attend Ohio State because I was impressed with their retention rate, curriculum, and campus.  Each time I visited the campus I felt like I was at home.

I completed and submitted all paperwork on time and kept tabs on my financial aid package daily.  On July 22, 2019, I checked my financial aid that showed that my fees for the semester totaled $18,000 because I'm an out of state student and $4,400 was due by August 13, 2019, three weeks before my move-in date.  I called the financial aid office who verified that the amount.  I've received scholarships, grants, and loans but they don't begin to cover the cost of my pending expenses.  My family is middle income and cannot afford this astronomical amount of money so I decided to raise the money myself.  I'm a determined and level-headed individual and I will leave no stone unturned in order to achieve my goal.  I’m applying my savings, selling personal items and foregoing the meal plan, setting up a payment plan and creating my GoFundMe campaign.

Effective July 24, 2019 is the list of my expenses as provided by Ohio State for out of state students, semester one.
Effective August 8, 2019: I have been approved for a gap year by Ohio State. This allows more time for the fundraiser to take place. I have also thought of an alternative for a worst case scenario. This alternative includes applying to UW-Madison and majoring in some sort of Engineering related degree and taking flying lessons at a local flight school, the down side to this though is that the flight program at Ohio State had connections with various airlines across the country. Students in the flight program at Ohio State essentially get funneled through the airlines and need less flight hours to get hired therefor it's far easier to get a job.

For anyone that has flown, you know the peace, amazement, and freedom that you feel when you’re flying.  The idea of being able to transport people and goods safely, to and from their destinations amazes me.

Flying has always been my light at the end of the tunnel.  My goal of being a commercial airline pilot is what drives me to do my best.  This is an opportunity that I cannot miss and I'll do everything in my power to achieve my dream.

Thank you for reading my story and for your generosity.
