Helping Lee Hager Jr.

Lee Hager Jr. is my uncle on my mother's side, he is the olders of six children (wearing the hat in the picture). 

Lee worked at Golden Living Nursing Home and Omaha Rehab for many years until pain in his back sent him to the doctor.  

Here is my Uncle's story.

A few years ago, my uncle went to the doctor for pain in his back that he had suffered from for a while. Always being told it's a pinched nerve and given pain meds. When that wasn't helping the doctor ordered  an MRI. The doctor found a softball size tumor in his back, biopsy confirmed it to be non hodgkins lymphoma.

He went through chemo as well as a blood cell transplant. He was in remission for a while until pain started back up a few months ago.

Going back to the doctor, running test doctors diagnosed my Uncle with JC Virus and PML.

The JC virus, is a common germ. More than half of all adults have been exposed to it. It only causes issues when someoen has a weak immune system.

The virus can bring on a serious brain infection called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). PML damages the outer coating of your nerve cells. It can cause permanent disabilities and death.  There is no cure for PML,  no drugs have been approved by the FDA for treatment.

Doctors run MRIs to help determine how much of the brain has been damaged, in doing so, doctors found more cancer in my uncles brian.

It's not something easy to talk about, the life expectancy is between one to six months after diagnosis.

This page was created to help with funeral expenses and the never ending medical bills.

My uncle is loved by many and will be greatly missed. We don't want him worrying about how things will be paid for.
