Hello Friends & Family:
We wanted to reach out to you all because we share a mutual friendship with Nick and Beth Grasso. Over the past few weeks, Nick and Beth have learned that the newest addition to their family, baby Gia Grasso has a heart that needs repair. She was recently diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), which is when a child is born with an abnormally structured heart. Since that bright sunny day in August when Gia decided to join us, she was always slightly under weight, but nothing to cause alarm. Over the following months leading up to now they started to notice that she wasn’t showing progress in gaining weight. This in turn triggered them to start the testing which then resulted in this very diagnosis. Baby Gia is a cute, smiley, adorable little baby in all ways a baby is, it’s just her heart is literally on overdrive which causes her to burn every calorie that she ingests.
Shortly after Gia was diagnosed with CHD Nick started to feel a slight level of discomfort so he went to the Dr.’s to get it checked out. After a few days of testing, the Dr.’s decided surgery was needed to learn more about this pain. After multiple tests and the surgery results came back and they diagnosed Nick with testicular cancer. As of right now Nick is scheduled for another surgery on February 27th. After this surgery he might have to endure chemotherapy and/or radiation, although we’re not totally sure what will be needed at this time.
From our research and what doctors have told us, Gia’s CHD condition and Nick’s type of cancer have a high success rate when treated early on. From what we understand, both father and daughter fall in to this high success rate category, which is so good to hear.
Nick and Beth are the most loveable, thoughtful and generous individuals that we know. The love this new family has for each other and their friends is insurmountable and any help you can give them will go a long way in helping them recover! Please keep the Grasso’s in your thoughts and prayers!
