Cancer expenses for Sammy Murallo

Samuel (Sammy) Murallo once enjoyed fishing with his boys, 16-year-old Manny and 18-year-old Sammy. They went to the races together or a sporting event. Carrie LaFlame, Sammy’s life-long partner and mother of his boys, often watched as Sammy raced in the races himself. He comes from a good size family, 2 older brothers, 1 younger sister and cancer is not new to him. In approximately 1995, one of his older brothers had a bought with cancer and is currently in remission. Then, in 2006, his mother Dolores, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Unfortunately she passed away in 2013. Still, it doesn’t get any easier…..
In November of 2011 Sammy experienced a grand mal seizure. A large tumor on his brain was found to be the cause of the seizure. He started Chemotherapy immediately then Sammy underwent a surgery to remove part of the tumor from his brain at Yale New Haven Hospital. They could only remove part of the tumor in order to preserve his memory and motor skills.
Sammy continued care at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven every few months until being transferred to Lawrence and Memorial.
On December 15th, 2016 it was discovered that the cancer had spread to other parts of his body through metastasis. Cancer cells were found in his lungs, liver and adrenal gland. On December 23rd, 2016 his brain had swollen and he spent Christmas in the hospital. Eight to twelve more tumors were found on his brain. He underwent Gamma Knife treatment on January 10th, 2017. Fourteen tumors were present at this time.
Sammy is currently under the care of Hospice and family members. The costs of supplies and necessities are overwhelming. Carrie has stopped working to care for him full time. This has consumed all of the family’s finances. Friends and family have been chipping in when they can, but the bills are still mounting. Please help this family survive this heartbreaking time of their lives. The goal above is NOT realistic. It’s not a goal at all. It’s just a number I put because one had to be established. There isn’t a goal. ANYTHING you can give will help. Sammy has applied for Social Security benefits three times. He’s been denied three times.
