UNIMET's road to Harvard's HNMUN'17

Model United Nations (MUN) is a diplomacy competition in which participants act as representatives of different countries, in order to generate healthy discussions and work together to solve world conflicts in a peaceful manner.
This experience helps participants see the world from a different point of view, develop tools for leadership in a variety of political and social environments, grow as strong and prepared professionals to face the challenges of human reality, and to have a better and more profound understanding of their peers.
We are Metro MUN, a delegation of 22 students from Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas, Venezuela and this campaign is to help us get to HNMUN, the international college Model UN conference held by Harvard University on February. This conference is the oldest, largest and most prestigious UN conference in the world.
Every year we choose a delegation amongst the best students in our university and build a well-rounded team to go to this competition. Since the year 1997 we have been attending this conference, and each year our performance has been getting stronger, always bringing awards back home. But most importantly, thanks to our intense preparation in problem solving abilities , teamwork, negotiation, public speaking and crafting of new ideas; almost all of the students that have been a part of this project are currently getting scholarships around the globe, developing their own entrepreneurial initiatives, or working on high-level positions in both the private and public sector. MetroMUN has 25 years changing people’s lives by shaping their dreams.
Venezuela is going through difficult times, that is why it is important for us to have experiences such as this one, that will help us become better leaders in the future to help our country and the rest of the world, become a suitable place for future generations. Regrettably, getting the funds to pay for transportation, hotel and conference expenses for this project is harder every day, due to our weak economy, the growing inflation, and an ever-stricter currency exchange control. Sadly our government does not give incentives to this kind of programs, and the amount of restrictions imposed to private enterprises make it even harder for our very own national companies to be able to help us.
For all these reasons, we are asking you, our international friends, to help us with this process and donate whatever you can help with, as well as helping us spread the word. We are very grateful for every single donation, no matter the size.
We MetroMUNers are a family and we would like you to join our family as a contributor for our dream, in order for us to continue helping the youth in our country to build theirs. As everyone keeps saying they want to be the change they wish to see in the world, we are real-life constructors of transformations; it’s us, the small organizations, the ones establishing a platform to push the human race forward, and it’s you, the one with the possibility to make this happen.
