I am 59 year old capoeira master. I started capoeira for fun in 1974 as a teenager that ran away from home, and while on the streets of Salvador Bahia I found Capoeira. After a few months I returned to my hometown, Jundiai SP. I finished high school and I studied biology at PUCC. Throughout college I continued practicing capoeira. In 1982 I graduated as a professor of capoeira and biology. In 1987 I graduated to the first level of Mestre, and the following year, 1988, I was invited by Mestre Suassuna to participate in an event of Mestre Marcelo Caveirinha in the United States. From that moment I had the privilege of working with the legendary Mestre Acordeon who graduated me to the rest of my Mestre levels. We were very successful and we had hundreds of students, of which some have become Mestres themselves.

Everything had been going very well until in January 2003, after suffering severe headaches and convulsions, I was diagnosed with "neurocystocercosis" that I contracted in one of the gastronomic adventures through Central America or Thailand where I traveled doing capoeira and Brazilian folklore shows. I was forced to retired due to my disability and after a few years, following the advice of the Social Security physician (INSS Americano) I returned to Brazil where this type of disease is much more frequent and treatments are practiced much more that in the US.

In 2014, with the help of "youcaring", I did my first drainage of this intramedullary cyst and the results were very good. I even managed to do light runs and the pain was manageable with a tolerable level of pain medication. In 2016 the cyst became a problem once again causing an atrophy and total loss of movements in the left arm also affecting the lower limbs to the point of it being necessary that I use of crutches to get myself from place to place. Another procedure was made to drain the cyst, this time paid for by a medical agreement. The results of this procedure were not even close to the result of the first surgery. Once again in 2018, we attempted another surgery with no satisfactory result.

Doctors now agree that the only thing that can be done is to control the level of pain, and that has been done through heavy medication(morphine and opium derivatives) that are seriously affecting my sanity. 

I am now being presented with a new surgical procedure that blocks pain information. In my current financial situation, this procedure is far out of my means.  There are times when I cannot even pay off my health insurance.

Therefore, both I my wife and my nine-year-old daughter will be eternally grateful for any help that can be charitably given by any blessed individual on Earth.




Eu sou mestre de capoeira com 59 anos de idade. Comecei capoeira em 1974 como diversão de adolescente fugido de casa nas ruas de Salvador Bahia. Depois de alguns meses voltei para minha cidade natal, Jundiai SP. Acabei o colégio e cursei  faculdade de Biologia na PUCC. Durante todo o período de colégio e faculdade, continuei praticando capoeira. Em 1982 me formei como professor de capoeira e biologia. Em 1987 me tornei mestre de primeiro grau e no ano seguinte, 1988, fui convidado pelo Mestre Suassuna para participar de um evento do Mestre Marcelo Caveirinha nos Estados Unidos. A partir desse momento tive o privilégio de trabalhar com o lendário Mestre Acordeon que me graduou como mestre de segundo, terceiro e finalmente mestre de capoeira, Fomos muito bem sucedidos e tivemos centenas de alunos dos quais alguns se tornaram mestres. Tudo ia muito bem até que em janeiro de 2003, depois de sofrer fortes dores de cabeça e uma eventual convulção, fui diagnosticado com "neurocistocercose" que contraí em uma das aventuras gastronômicas pela América Central ou Tailândia por onde eu viajava fazendo shows de capoeira e folclore brasileiro. Foi quando me aposentei por invalidez e depois de alguns anos, seguindo o conselho do médico do Social Security (INSS Americano) retornei ao Brasil onde esse tipo de doença é muito mais frequente o que se torna mais conhecida e os tratamentos muito mais praticados e aprimorados. Em 2014, com a ajuda do "youcaring", fiz minha primeira drenagem desse cisto intramedular e o resultado foi muito bom. Consegui até fazer leves corridas e a dor era gerenciável com um nível tolerável de medicamentos para controlar a dor. Em 2016 o cisto voltou a ser um problema causando uma atrofia e perda total de movimentos no braço esquerdo também afetando os membros inferiores ao ponto de ser necessário o uso de muleta para locomoção. Fiz uma nova drenagem, desta vez paga por um convênio medico. O resultado nem se aproximou do resultado da primeira cirurgia. Em 2018 fizemos uma nova tentativa cirúrgica sem resultado satisfatório. Atualmente os médicos concordam que a única coisa que pode ser feita é controlar o nível de dor que até então tem sido feito através de fortes medicamentos (derivados de morfina e ópio)  que estão afetando seriamente a minha sanidade mental. Existe um procedimento cirúrgico que bloqueia a informação de dor. No momento eu posso até conseguir que este procedimento seja feito por um valor consideravelmente "amigável",  no entanto, por estar incapaz, não consigo nem quitar a minha dívida com o meu seguro saúde. Portanto tanto eu como minha esposa e filha de nove anos ficarei eternamente grato por qualquer ajuda que possa ser caridosamente doada por qualquer abençoado indivíduo na Terra.
