My name is Michelle Curry and I am the Executive Director for Merrick House.

Merrick House has been in the Tremont Community for 98 years and we are excited to host our 5th Annual Merrick [Rocks The] House Signature Fundraising event on Friday, May 19th at the Music Box Supper Club featuring the Band “SHOUT”.

We'd love to have you come to the event but if you can't join us in person, you can still support Merrick House.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the staff, our clients and myself I thank you for your support.

More about Merrick House :

Merrick House is one of Cleveland’s original settlement houses, a thriving neighborhood center that engages and educates to empower people in Tremont and its surrounding areas.  Founded in 1919, under the auspices of the National Catholic War Council as part of their post-war reconstruction work. Merrick House began in a simple storefront building on Starkweather Avenue. Immigrants flocked here for English classes, reliable child care, recreation and neighborhood clubs.  Today, new faces and nationalities live in the neighborhood - but many of the same critical needs remain.  As we grow and change, we are always committed to our history of serving the community.

In 2016 we served 1,160 clients through our impactful programs which include

Early Childhood Education – Our childcare center is licensed through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and has the capacity to serve 71 children ages 6 weeks to 5years.  We are a Step Up to Quality 4 Star rated center and a Universal Pre-Kindergarten designated site.  We are also a Pre4Cle early adopter.  We engage children through lesson plans, play-based learning, field trips and educational enrichment to help prepare them for Kindergarten.

Youth Leadership and Development - Our youth programs focus on positive youth development offering social and emotional support, educational enrichment and training in healthy decision-making at two locations.  Programming includes a Youth Leadership Council, summer youth employment and youth leadership.  We are a MyCom Out-of-School time site and a MyCom 2.0 Lead Agency through Starting Point.

Adult Education and Workforce Development - We have a 40-year history of successfully preparing students for the GED test with adult education classes, as well as basic literacy education.  Support services available through this program include assistance with job search or post-secondary education or training options.  We are affiliated with Parma ABLE and teach to the Common Core State Standards.

MomsFirst Home Visiting Program - Through a partnership with the city of Cleveland Department of Public Health, our MomsFirst program helps educate at-risk pregnant women about their pregnancy, engages fathers or partners, and encourages prenatal care, self-sufficiency, and responsibility.

Recreation and Outreach - We provide organized opportunities for recreation which includes: Zumba, Karate, Summer youth basketball league and weight lifting.
