About me
Hey! My name is Mendo Dornellas and I’m a 23 years old photographer and filmmaker from Lisbon, Portugal.
My life philosophy is based on living the life a the best! During the past 3 years, I slowly began travelling more and more, it got like an addiction for me now.
I started photography two years ago, while I was working in a surf camp. The local photographer really pushed my interest in this area, and nowadays that’s what I do the most.
It actually matches my lifestyle really good, I love the ocean, nature, camping, exploring, and showing all those moments seems to create a lot of interest around it! That’s why I explored it a bit further, mixing my lifestyle with travelling and photography.
I’ve done two mains trips where I documented what I was living: Morocco and Indonesia (You can check it out on my website, on the “adventure” toggle)
My adventures
Photography makes my trips even more special, it makes me step out my comfort zone to catch certain moments.
I will never forget for example when I was in Indonesia, a local boy invited me to join a ceremony in is own little village, we did 7 hours of bike during the morning, crossing some of the most gorgeous landscapes I can remember.
When we arrived the whole village was so happy to have me at their ceremony! The cultural shock was huge, but the result was magic, they were learning with me, and I was learning with them. It was special, and I will never forget those moments.
Those are the moments that I want to keep in my camera, to have the chance of sharing a different way of living, a culture, ideas with other cultures, making this world more connected and smaller!
The idea
Start the trip in Indonesia, and explore the whole coast of Java island. Then travel to either India or Sri Lanka. The whole trip should last around 3 months, depending on the funds I will manage to get. Capture as many moments as possible and then organize a photography exhibition in Lisbon with the final result.
Sell the prints from the exhibition and use the money for a social cause that I think is worth based on what I lived and saw during my trip.
Who wins?
Everyone!
You will be part of my trip, you will follow my adventure, learn more about a place, about a culture or just about something.
The people I will meet during my journey, they will exchange experience with someone who comes from the other side of the world.
Me, I will do what I love, travel, meet people, discover other cultures and challenge myself!
Where is this money going?
The money will pay my plane tickets, stays, food and a part of the exhibition (prints, frames, comunication...)
When is the trip/exhibition taking place?
I would love to start as soon as possible, but let's say I would take off somewhere around May until End of July. The exhibition would take place somewhere around September / October!
Thank you for making this possible!
