Memorial Fund for Vladimir Mazur

Donation protected
Vladimir Mazur peacefully passed on February 24, 2019, leaving behind his beloved wife Elena Mazur, with 6 children and 13 grandchildren. He was 60 years old.

In the summer of 1989, Vladimir and Elena Mazur, along with their children, immigrated to the United States. Being one of the first Slavic families to immigrate, they pioneered the way for future families to follow. Despite starting off with limited resources, they continued to have giving hearts and offered their tiny home to incoming immigrants to stay with them. Vladimir and Elena enrolled in college to learn the English language and started working full-time to provide a better life for their family. In the year 2000, they opened one of the first Russian Deli markets in the Sacramento area, Bon Appetit. The business allowed them to serve the underprivileged in the community through charitable donations.

Vladimir lived a life of service to those around him with a heart full of giving. He was a deacon for 30 years in the Slavic Christian community. He has been on multiple missionary trips to Ukraine and Brazil, offering words of encouragement and acts of service. He was a living testimony of God’s love for the community with his gentle spirit and life-giving words. Growing up in the family, our dad was humble and let his actions speak for him. He was always surrounded by friends and his church community, which he loved very much.

Around four years ago, Vladimir and Elena legally adopted their youngest daughter’s two children, Dasha and Elijah. Shortly after, in July 2015, Vladimir suffered a major stroke which left our mom as the sole provider of the household. He underwent a successful operation that removed the clot, but he never woke up from the anesthesia/medical-induced coma. She devoted her energy full-time to taking care of her husband at home and their newly adopted grandchildren.

Our mom took care of dad full time for the last four years. He required 24-hour care from his family at home, which she provided with love. We were very hopeful about his full recovery. Throughout the medical journey, our family has had the privilege to be around our beloved dad and speak to him with the faith that he heard us and knew he was deeply loved and appreciated. Watching our mom devote herself to caring for her husband and raising her two adopted grandchildren has been amazing.

We wholeheartedly thank those who have already reached out with words of encouragement. Please continue to support us in prayer as we mourn the loss of our beloved dad. He will be missed by his family and friends, deeply.
