Memorial fund for Qianglu Lin

Donation protected
With heavy hearts, we express our deep sadness at the unexpected and untimely passing of Qianglu Lin at the age of 30. Prior to being diagnosed with leukemia less than five months ago, Qianglu had been a vibrant member of the Los Alamos scientific community for over five years, helping us try to make the world a better place through the power of nanotechnology. All who knew him can attest to his passion for discovery, his lively sense of humor, and his generosity in spending his time and talents for other people. Buoyed by the support of his family, who traveled from China to be with him, Qianglu was seemingly on his way to recovery after bone marrow transplant in March, until last week when a sudden reversal took him from us.

Now, we friends of Qianglu Lin are asking your help in alleviating the financial burden of this tragic loss on his immediate family. Specifically, his father and brother incurred considerable expenses by travelling from China and leaving their work behind for several months to help him through what they had hoped would be his recovery. Since treatment was in Denver, it was necessary also to pay for housing within a walk from the hospital over that time. Finally, while still in shock, the family was hit with the costs of cremation, and a short-notice flight to return Qianglu’s remains home to China, where his mother waited, unaware of what had happened. All funds collected in this campaign will go toward covering Qianglu’s outstanding obligations in the US, through Po-E (Paul) Li, acting with power of attorney; any residuals beyond that will be sent by Mr. Li directly to Qianglu’s family in China, to be applied toward the considerable expenses they incurred through their travel and absence. Although nothing can replace their devoted son, and our dear friend, it is our hope that we can at least allow Qianlgu’s family to try to move forward without the added anxiety of severe financial concerns.

Thank you,

Jeff Pietryga, Zhiyuan Lan and Po-E Li
