Memorial fund for Kurt and Suzie

Donation protected
It is with the most broken of hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Kurt. In the same breath, we ask for prayers of physical and emotional healing for Suzie...she needs them very much at this time.

On Sunday, 10/21/18, Suzie was admitted into the hospital with a broken hip and subsequent malnutrition/dehydration due what we would later discover was an abdominal infection.  Kurt, Elizabeth and Ross (daughter and son-in-law) were together with her Sunday evening.  On Monday, Kurt spent the day with Suzie. Drs and nurses alike say he seemed good. One dr asked him how he was doing and he said he was good, just tired. They suggested he go home and rest, assuring him they would take good care of Suzie. Kurt went home to rest. Sometime between 8-9pm he called himself an ambulance, as he was having difficulty breathing. He arrived at the ER in respiratory distress and was diagnosed with Pneumonia and Sepsis. Kurt was placed on a ventilator and transferred to ICU.  Elizabeth and Ross were with him all day, as his condition continued to decline. Suzie was wheeled into his room to spend some time with him. Very sick, and in septic shock, he needed to be transferred to a more specialized hospital. A team was flown in for stabilization and transport. Before they could stabilize him, Kurt went into cardiac arrest. Elizabeth was in the room with Kurt as he was administered CPR for 30 minutes. CPR was unsuccessful in reviving him.  Elizabeth was with him as he passed in the late afternoon on 10/23/18.

The shock is enormous. But still, we don't really have time to completely process Kurt's passing at this moment because we are very much worried about Suzie. Her condition is especially serious. In addition to the the emotional grief she is experiencing, her body is in a seriously fragile state. Suzie had fallen 6 weeks ago and injured her hip. Believing it was hurt, but not broken, she remained at home resting in an attempt to heal herself. During this time, Kurt was caring for her needs diligently. While trying to heal at home, she developed nausea and vomiting that made her unable to process any nutrition. Unbeknownst to both of them, Suzie had an infection in her abdomen in addition to a broken hip.  The drs believe she injured her liver during the fall and developed a hematoma, upon which an infection developed. She currently has a drain to empty any more infection that may build up. Unfortunately, Suzie has not been able to hold down any foods...until yesterday when she had a very small amount of food. It's desperately important we get food down her, she needs nutrition to heal her body to an extent that she can be transferred to a rehabilitation facility. As her body is too ill for surgery, the hip break must be put on hold. It will be re-assessed when she is healthier. Currently, family is with her, comforting her as best they can and tending to her physical needs. She has someone with her every night to assure her needs are all met.  Prayers are urgently needed for our dear Suz. It is imperative that she quickly starts to get some nourishment, her current state of health is extremely critical.

As Kurt would tell us, God's timing is perfect. We are hanging on to that and trying to hear him voice those words, as he did so many times. We commend Kurt into our Lord’s hands and trust in God’s mercy and infinite love. Kurt’s love of the Lord was known to all of us and we trust he is at peace. We feel comforted that Kurt's passing was quick and painless. The fact that Elizabeth was with him, holding onto him as he passed on to eternal life is such a gift. We know Kurt would want us to pray for acceptance, peace, faith, and understanding during this time of difficult suffering.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 4:57pm, our dear Suzie joined Kurt in eternal life. Both her physical pain and the grief from losing Kurt were too much for her to recover from. It is with tremendous sadness we share this news. However, just as they would have wanted, they were not apart long...just long enough for us to share our goodbyes and love with Suzie for one last week. We are grateful for that time.

RIP to our beloved:
Kurt Richard Liebendorfer 7/11/57-10/23/18
Suzanne Marie Zarse Liebendorfer 6/28/57-10/31/18
