Memorial for Rita Gutierrez-Garcia

On March 18th, Rita Gutierrez-Garcia went missing from Longmont, Colorado and hasn't been seen since; nearly one year ago. Police continue to investigate the case, but sadly, they believe Rita is deceased and foul play is suspected. As the mother of 3 children, a paralegal student, sister, daughter, and friend, Rita's disappearance has impacted her family and the community she lived in.

For 10 months, Rita's family has struggled to find answers. Worst of all, they don't even have a place to go and remember Rita as he remains have yet to be discovered. 


Shortly after Rita disappeared, her family began holding prayer services, vigils, and gatherings at a local park in Longmont. On a whim, they decided to place ribbons and tags on a tree to talk to Rita, pray for her safety, and for her to return home. 


The community rallied around the family and most people now call it "Rita's tree."
As you can imagine, Rita's family, including her sons are heartbroken as they don't have a place to go talk with Rita, remember her, and try to heal. We want to change that. 


It's time to have a place for Rita's family to begin their healing journey, but also a place for her friends and the community to come and remember her also.

After speaking with the City of Longmont, we learned it'll cost about $2,000 to have a memorial bench and a plaque installed in one of the city's parks. That money would cover a beautiful memorial bench, a concrete pad helping it stand out in a park, all installation labor, and a plaque forever memorializing Rita. 

We can't do it without you. Every little bit makes a difference. This is just one step in the long road ahead. Help us remember her.
