Support for the Reid Family

Donation protected
This is the place to donate money to help Tracy and Kelton Reid to fund the medical expenses for their late daughter, Lake Ruby, and her mother.

Both were hospitalized May 8th, 2018.

At 1:38 PM on May 8th, 2018, Tracy and Kelton Reid welcomed their newborn daughter, Lake Ruby Reid, into the world. She was born at home and weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz., measuring 17 1/2", after a normal and healthy 37-week pregnancy.

Within minutes Lake was gasping for air, unable to breathe, and rushed to Denver Health by ambulance where she was received by the Pediatric E.R. and attended to by a team of neonatologists.

Her dad, Kelton, arrived at the E.R. right behind the paramedics, anxiously awaiting any news on his daughter's status. He watched helplessly as the doctors and nurses worked to stabilize Lake's respiratory distress.

Lake's mom, Tracy, was shortly thereafter rushed to the Labor & Delivery specialists at Denver Health with retained placenta – likely related to Lake's condition – that caused her enormous blood loss. After a procedure to remove the placenta and a blood transfusion she was stabilized, but in recovery, awaiting news about her baby.

After a sleepless night in the hospital, the couple received the update from the doctors that no parent ever wants to hear.

Lake's prognosis was not good. She was diagnosed with an advanced and very rare genetic kidney disease, ARPKD (autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease), by specialists at Children's Health who were not optimistic. The chances of being born with the disease are 1 in 20,000.

Her oversized kidneys had already developed cysts, and her underdeveloped lungs were full of fluid. This was all putting enormous pressure on her heart, which was failing imminently.

The prognosis was bleak. She had hours or days to live and the odds were stacked against her.

On May 12th, four days and four hours after her birth, Lake Ruby Reid passed peacefully in the arms of her loving parents, surrounded by family and the incredibly caring staff of Denver Health.

Tracy and Kelton would like friends and family to please respect their privacy and process for grieving (they will be able to see your comments and condolences here). Thank you for your donations, and feel free to share widely –
