Melody Jackson is a dear friend to so many people.  She always manages to have a smile on her face no matter what.  She and her wonderful husband Karl have raised 3 beautiful girls - Samantha, Karlie and Kaitlyn.  Sadly, Melody has been diagnosed with liver cancer.  She and her family face a long journey to her recovery.  Many know Mel and Karl because of their wonderful coffee shop called the Karmel Coffee House.  Mel makes it special and most us that go there truly are regulars.  Melody's friends want to make sure that finances won't add to the stress she'll be facing.  The coffee shop is currently closed because she can't be there and that income is no longer available to them.  There will be travel to Indianapolis for procedures, which means Karl will likely be taking a lot of time off too.  Plus insurance never covers everything.  This is the best way to help her through this and we would appreciate any support we can get for our friend Melody.

This is Melody’s story directly from her. She told me I could share here.
“So in today's Facebook journal, I'd like to share how my life completely took a u turn! Back on Easter weekend, my favorite day a Sunday, I just got home from getting coffee out, but decided I was still a little hungry, so I decided to make some cheesy, buttery scrambled eggs, it was so good, but I got sleepy afterwards, so i layed back in my chair and drifted off, only to be awaken by the worst pain in my gut. First instinct was oh man I got the flu, got up went to the bathroom but nothing, so I got up then started sweating really bad, pain hurting my gut so bad, went up my arm, I'm shaking, scared, my daughter Kaitlyn is home who rushes me into her car to take me to ER, where I believe I'm having a heart attack, but half way to the hospital. I burp and felt so much better , I asked her to take me back home and I'll make a Dr appointment this week and I did, Drs did an ultrasound believed I had gallstones! He then recommended me to an MRI! While waiting for the scheduling of the MRI. I had another attack on memorial day weekend! Once again after 20-30 min I burped. And no pain. I did my MRI in June of 2016, i was called and told I have a non cancerous tumor in my liver, but My Mri was a little cloudy. LP surgeon sends me to Indianapolis in Aug 2017, where specialist told me don't worry about that liver. It shows sign of a non cancerous tumor, and that gallbladder you've only had 2 attacks if it we're me, I'd wait until the pain doesn't stop in that gallbladder before doing surgery. I left there a little confused. But content! I then made an appointment for a 3rd opinion in Oct 2017 to a gastroenterologist, who reassured me, I agree with Indy Dr. Doesn't look like anything more with that tumor and to wait on gallbladder surgery! New year's Eve weekend, yes the pain returned, finally I'm gonna get this gallbladder out. The pain wasn't stopping. I made appointment with family Dr who did blood work, I was jaundice and my liver was shutting down, you need to be admitted into south bend memorial, go there. They are expecting u! Oh ok. I go there only to wait in pain for 7 hours in the ER , finally got admitted into my room at 5 am the next day, that's where my eyes were opened! That non cancerous tumor was now a solid mass and it grew double the size in 6 months, i had 2 stents put in me that week! I went to indianapolis to be told I have gallbladder cancer, I'm having surgery Monday for 6 hours, Hoping and praying they get it all, then after recovery, I will need chemo and radiation! My advice to you, keep following up with your gut! I had 3 opinions to satisfy my mind only to feel failed! Thank you everyone for reading my painful journal entry! ❤️❤️”

I’ve just learned that the cancer apparently started in Melody’s gallbladder. She will be having surgery soon. She will have some recovery time before moving on to chemo or radiation (I’m assuming that the treatment options will be based on what they discover during surgery). Please keep sharing our campaign to help Melody! This is going to be a long road and a stressful one. I have no doubt that Melody will beat this! Let’s keep up with the positive thoughts everyone and share, share, share❤️
