Melissa's Battle Against ALS
Donation protected
Melissa (Lutz) Cordek is a 35 year old mommy of 2 who was just recently diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn’t until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. (ALS.com)
You probably remember the ALS ice bucket fundraiser which brought a lot of awareness, research and support for those with ALS but unfortunately a CURE did not come with it.
Melissa is a very optimistic person who is taking her ALS diagnosis as a reason to fight for answers and a cure for herself and all of those battling ALS. Melissa is so loved and the outpouring of support she is receiving has been amazing and it means the world to this beautiful young lady! Melissa is ready to be the first patient cured of this disease. She is looking into different clinical trials all over the world. We are starting this gofundme page for whatever Melissa would need the funds for. Whether she needs time off of work to spend time with her loved ones, travel for clinical trials, or any modifications needed in the future.
Please show Melissa your support and love and donate whatever you can!! Every little bit helps!!!!
