Hiya, my name is Melissa, but some folks may know me as Kayla via my online alias. I'm a freelance artist that specializes in cartoons and webcomics. I'm hoping to one day find the inspiration to make my first children's book for kids and adults to enjoy. This is a little awkward for me so please bear with me.
When I was 18 and graduated from high school, my mother and rest of my family was determined that I go to college and get a good paying job afterwards. It was what was expected of me.
Back then I told my mother I wasn't ready for college and I wasn't in the right mindset of going.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a job at the time, so my mother basically gave me the ultimatum of going to college, or I couldn't live with her anymore. So, I was forced to go when I wasn't ready, and I didn't do well because I was constantly worried about being put on the street, and I wasn't able to focus. I didn't get to finish school, and I've had to pay back a huge debt after being discharged, roughly $120,000.
I was able to start paying some of my loans back after I got married, as I started freelancing, making custom cartoon pieces for customers. At first, this worked out ok, however, in recent years I haven't been able to make the funds as I used to in order to effectively put dents into the student loans.
Navient is asking between $650 - $1300 a month in student loan payments. Two of the loans are private loans with a 12% and 13.5% interest rate. The money that I put on these loans have only been able to pay the accrued interest, but not the principle itself. It's becoming a struggle to actually get these paid off, cause the money that I put down isn't budging the principle by very much, and I don't want to kill myself financially to keep Navient satisfied.
Basically, I....could really use some help. A little bit could go a long way, and I would really, really appreciate it. Being able to put a sizable dent would help me out a ton.
