Phi Delta Gamma (ΦΔΓ) of Puerto Rico was founded in the western town of Mayagüez, on April 25, 1942.
The Phi Delta Gamma members are known as "the originals", because we changed the way a traditional fraternity may be; also, we were the first Greek letter fraternity, which originated in western Puerto Rico: town of Mayagüez. We are renowned for our friendliness and honesty. Above all, the great brotherhood among its members is very characteristic of their family oriented activities.
Since the mid 90’s we own a 3,000 square feet facility in San Juan, Puerto Rico. All our capital is tied up to that asset. The asset has no mortgage, no liens.
Said facility, which we call our Clubhouse, is used for weekly brothers gatherings, seminars and other events construed to have a positive impact in Puerto Rico.
As you know, Puerto Rico has been on a downward economic spiral since 2006. To make matters worse, the island was impacted by a category five(5) hurricane on September, 2017. We are going in the midst of a deep recession. There is been a massive exodus of Puerto Ricans: It’s been reported that on 4th Q 2017 alone some 200K left the Island, fraternity brothers included.
Our facility was affected by the direct hits received from the hurricane. Due to lack of electricity and water, we were not able to use it until 1st Q 2018. Despite the aforementioned, we have had to continue paying a monthly maintenance fee in the vicinity of $1,400, property taxes and insurance.
Today we are struggling to keep our facility both open and functional.
We need to replace our A/C system ( which was crushed by the hurricane), all carpets, office equipment amongst others things. All in, we are looking at some $20K-$25K in total capital expenditures.
Our records suggest there are close to 5K Phi Delta Gamma’s around the globe. GoFund Me is the only platform that would allow us to reach out to the bulk of our brotherhood and ask for their help.
