Mein Papa und das Glioblastom

Vor etwa 2 Monaten begann mein Papa (47) damit, Sprachstörungen zu entwickeln, erst waren es nur ein paar Wörter die ihm ab und an nicht einfielen. Es ging so weit das er teilweise keine ordentlichen Sätze mehr von sich gab und ihm in jedem Satz mindestens ein Wort fehlte. Da dies am Ende so rasant geschah entschied sich meine Mama am 04. März dazu, meinen Vater ins Krankenhaus zu bringen. Dort wurde noch am gleichen Abend ein raumforderndes “Etwas” in seinem Gehirn festgestellt. Wenige Tage später zeigte der MRT Befund einen bösartigen Tumor auf.
Eine Woche nachdem mein Papa im Krankenhaus landete, war dann auch schon die OP. Ärzte schnippelten also 7 Stunden lang an dem Gehirn meines Papas rum. Die beste Nachricht an diesen Tag war wohl, dass der Tumor weitestgehend entfernt werden konnte. Die Ärzte konnten sogar mehr entfernen als sie vorher gehofft hatten. Jedoch kann mein Papa seitdem nicht mehr viel sprechen und muss vieles neu lernen.
Wenige Tage nach der ersten Operation zeigte ein erneuter MRT Befund jedoch, dass sich noch ein weiterer Teil des Tumors in seinem Gehirn befindet also hieß es für meinen Papa erneut in den OP zu müssen. Nun scheint der Tumor weitestgehend entfernt zu sein.
Der inzwischen eingetroffene histologische Befund bestätigte die Diagnosen der Ärzte: das Ding in dem Kopf meines Vaters ist ein Glioblastom. Einer der gefährlichsten Tumore die momentan existieren.
Auch heutzutage ist die Medizin noch nicht weit genug, um diesen Tumor zu Fall zu bringen. Alle Behandlungsmethoden sind also lebensverlängernde Maßnahmen, von Heilung ist jedoch nicht die Rede. Also ist alles was uns noch bleibt Zeit, und davon hoffentlich so viel wie möglich. Unser Ziel ist es ein Rezidiv solange wie möglich zu verhindern.
Um das Beste Chemotherapeutikum für meinen Papa zu finden haben wir das Tumorgewebe bei einer Klinik in Heidelberg noch einmal besonders untersuchen lassen. Die Untersuchung setzt sich aus zwei verschiedenen Tests zusammen. Bei einem wird das Tumorgewebe auf die gängigen Chemotherapeutika in der Behandlung von Hirntumoren getestet, um heraus zu finden, welches Mittel am Besten gegen diesen Tumor wirkt. Der zweite Test untersucht die Medikamente die am besten nach der Chemo auf den Körper wirken. Diese Untersuchung wird jedoch nicht von seiner Krankenkasse übernommen, weshalb wir nun die Rund 6000€ alleine stemmen müssen. Unterlagen für die Kostenübernahme wurden uns bereits von dem Unternehmen, bei welchem wir die Tests machen lassen, übermittelt. Diese haben wir bei der Krankenkasse eingereicht, woraufhin wir von jedoch eine Absage erhielten.
Neben all den Kosten, die noch auf uns zukommen werden, gibt es nur wenige Möglichkeiten in der Behandlung eines Glioblastoms, die meist nicht von der Kasse übernommen werden.
Mein Name ist Chiara und ich bin 20 Jahre alt. Das hier ist mein Versuch meinen Eltern so gut wie möglich unter die Arme zu greifen, da ich mit meinen 20 Jahren leider noch nicht viele Möglichkeiten habe, um dies auf anderen Wegen zu tun. Um für meinen Papa alle Möglichkeiten für ein angenehmes Leben ausschöpfen zu können, freue ich mich über jeden, der mir und meiner Familie helfen möchte.

Approximately two months ago my father (47) started developing a speech disorder. At the beginning, he was unable to recall a few words, but it became worse soon after, rendering him unable to build cohesive sentences with every sentence at least missing a word. This happened extremely fast, so my mother decided to take him to the hospital on the 4th of March. On the same evening the doctors discovered “something” in his brain. They weren’t sure at that point, but a few days later the MRI results revealed a malignant tumour.
He went into surgery a week after he got to the hospital. The brain surgery took seven hours, and luckily, most parts of the tumour could be removed. The doctors were able to remove even more than they had anticipated. However, due to the surgery my father is now unable to speak more than a few words and has to relearn everything.
Sadly, only days later a second MRI showed another part of the tumour was still in his brain. Again, he had to endure another brain surgery but now the tumour seems to be gone almost entirely at last.
Meanwhile the histological findings arrived and verified the doctors’ diagnosis: the tumour in my father´s brain is a glioblastoma. One of the most dangerous tumours on earth.
Even with today’s technology and medical resources it is impossible to heal this tumour. Each and every therapy or treatment is life-prolonging, but there is no cure. Everything we have left is our time together. The goal is to prevent the formation of a recurrence as long as possible.
To find the best chemotherapeutic for him, we sent a sample of the tumour tissue to a clinic in Heidelberg to get a further analysis. This analysis is composed of two tests. One of the tests determines which of the common chemotherapeutics is the most effective regarding my father’s tumour. The other one can determine the medication most suitable for his body once the chemotherapy is over. However, this analysis is not covered by his health insurance and is expected to cost around 6000€ that we’ll have to pay by ourselves. We received the documents regarding the assumption of costs from the company doing the analysis and submitted it to the insurance, but they refused to cover the payment. In addition to all the costs we have to face, there are only very few possibilities to treat a glioblastoma in general, of which most are not covered by health insurance.
