Meiko's Medical Fund

Donation protected

We just found out that our little baby Meiko kitty has juvenile stomatitis, an incurable feline virus that results in painful inflammation in the oral cavity and, if left untreated, can move down the throat and make eating and swallowing extremely difficult and painful.

This little princess means everything to us, and we want nothing more than to give her the world and keep her healthy. Unfortunately, right now we need help to do this. We're asking for your help to reach $1,000 for the medical procedures that would give Meiko some relief.

About Meiko <3

Meiko is currently 10 months old and is the sweetest cat I've ever known. She loves cuddling up next to you and getting as many pets as you're willing to give. She's super energetic and likes showing off just how high she can jump (which is pretty high) if enticed with the right toy. She's incredibly loving and gentle -- she even let us look around in her mouth and take pictures for this fundraiser with no problem at all! She really is just the best all around, and we love her to bits.

Juvenile Stomatitis

Juvenile stomatitis is an incurable feline virus that results in a painful inflammation of the oral cavity that can quickly spread to other parts of the mouth, including the throat. If left untreated, it can make eating and swallowing extremely difficult and painful.

Below are some pictures of Meiko's constantly inflamed gums.

Sadly, full dental extraction is the only for sure way to rid cats of this virus. This just breaks my heart. Meiko's so young, and I hate that there's not more we can do for her. There is one preventive measure that can be taken that can help push back the necessary extraction for a few months or even years -- a gingivectomy. We're hoping to opt for this preventive measure with this fundraiser to let Meiko keep her teeth for as long as possible while still keeping her pain-free.

A gingivectomy involves x-rays, a full dental cleaning and plaque removal, and the trimming and removal of the diseased tissue in the gums. This procedure can temporarily remove the effects of juvenile stomatitis and keep Meiko happy until the virus comes back. The next step will be a full extraction.

The price for a gingivectomy ranges from $800 - $1,000, depending on the age of the cat and the severity of the virus. We can't get a more specific estimate unless we take Meiko in for x-rays and a consultation, which runs between $500 - $600 and is included in the gingivectomy cost. The full dental extraction ranges from $1800 - $2200. We'll tackle that hurdle when it comes time for that.

Meiko's dentist recommended that we take action as soon as possible to prevent the virus from getting worse, so we have a tentative gingivectomy appointment scheduled for July 24th. Anything you can do to help us raise the money for this procedure -- whether it's donating or simply sharing with your friends -- would help tremendously.

I hate that I can't afford to do this for Meiko on my own, but she needs help, and it's just not something that can be put off. Thank you so much for any help you can give. If you know me personally, feel free to invite yourself over for Meiko cuddles as thanks! She'll be more than happy with that.

All donations will go towards Meiko's gingivectomy procedure. If we exceed the goal, all additional funds will be put towards Meiko's future extraction procedure.
