Hello everyone!

This October (i.e. very soon) I'm setting off to travel along the whole length of the Amazon River (the largest in the world), from its source 5,000 mts above sea level in the Peruvian Andes to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean. During this 2-month long adventure I will cross the South American continent and will live among communities and tribes that call the Amazon Rainforest their home.

During previous visits I've been able to see for myself that, despite the idyllic surroundings, life in the Amazon can be very difficult.  Insufficient social investment and indifference by the Peruvian and Brazilian governments have resulted in a completely inadequate healthcare system which, for example, forces people to travel huge distances to the nearest clinic only to find that they don't have the most basic medicines and antibiotics. In an environment where infections and parasites thrive, this poses a huge risk, particularly to children.

So, with your generosity, I would like to purchase medicines locally in the larger towns and donate them to the more isolated local communities I encounter in the forest. I will only be able to take the medicines I can carry in my back-pack but, despite it being a drop in the ocean, I hope that together we can make a small but significant difference.

I am covering all the costs of my trip so 100% of your donations will be used to purchase medicines to help the people of the Amazon. Thank you for your generosity and for passing on this message!

Pablo

P.S.  I will of course tell you about the people you've been able to help, and send photos :)

Dear donors,

After 2 months on the Amazon, I have just made it back home to Barcelona. It has been an amazing, eye-opening experience which I am still trying to make sense of.

In terms of the medicines, I was able to donate to 5 different communities: 1- The leper colony of San Jose (Peru); 2- San Pablo (Peru); 3- Mocagua (Colombia); 4- Maguari (Brazil) and 5- Jamaraqua (Brazil). In all these communities the medicines were very much needed and appreciated so thank you very much for your donations, they made a real difference.

Thank you,
Pablo
