My neice Lanie has just been diagnosed with Acute Monoblastic Leukemia. The specific type she has is extremely rare. Her diagnosis is Acute monoblastic/monocytic leukemia; she is MLL M4. As we are preparing to support her in this fight for her life my sister and her husband (Reina and John) are currently there with her but have had to leave work temporarily to travel to Chicago.  Lanie will begin chemo Monday. Please keep prayers going and Lanie and our family in your thoughts.

Hello, everyone!

Bit of an overdue update here. I've been readmitted to Lutheran after a couple month layover waiting for Medicaid to finalize approval... two months later! Unbelievable.
--- basically this was a huge bummer because if Medicaid hadn't taken so long to go through, a.) I wouldn't have had to have gone through two rounds of consolidation chemo, and b.) I would have already been in transplant and likely wouldn't have relapsed in the first place. So... ):<

But anyway, it kind of all works out. They went ahead and readmitted me to get me back into remission under oncology, but I'm already situated in a transplant room (much bigger and nicer!). So if all goes as planned, my biopsy will come back clean on the 30th and I'll be inducted into transplant that same day. My sister Nina Wetter is my donor, a perfect 12/12 match!! So she'll be heading up next week with my mom to start her workups. Then the tentative dates, fingers crossed, are for her to start her treatment on 2/2, and the day of collection and my stem cell transplant (a.k.a. my "new birthday") should be 2/6....

at last!!!

So things are really moving along! Unfortunately none of the expenses for my sister and my mom's travel are being covered and my sister is not getting paid time off for the two weeks she'll be away (which is super unfair?), so as much as I hate to ask --- my family and I could really use all the help we can get during this time. I'm hoping we can push through this last leg of extended hospitalization without so much the strain of money pulling us every which way.

Here's the link to the ol' gofundme, but again, every little thing is appreciated. Even just a text! Or a plant! (I need something to water on my walks! lol) Or a visit! We have board games and hospital food. Yum. ;D

I cannot thank you all enough for the positive thoughts and energy coming my way. I may not be able to thank every person individually but I promise your energy reaches me and I am so empowered by all of you. ❤️

Meanwhile, here's some pics of how we're keeping occupied these days. Spoons!!!

I love you all so very much,
- Lanie

Just a quick update. Lanie is feeling awful with this round of chemo. She has been nauseous, has fevers, muscle she body aches and pain, and get appetite has shrunk a little. She also has a rash all over her body. They started her 2nd round this morning at 9 a.m. They're giving her Tylenol to control her fevers and pain. She has been in a good mood in the evenings and is eating. She's sleeping all day. Nothing she is going through is a surprise to the doctors. Thank you all for your prayers, love & support!

Ok. Updated info from Dr. Bufalino yesterday. The big news: It's inconclusive. She says that Lanie has blast cells appearing in her blood, but she can't tell if they're cancerous or not. Because she's so young and healthy, her bone marrow could just be massively producing, causing some blast cells to pour into her blood. Because Lanie's leukemia is monoblastic, it's a concern. All get other levels are normal now. So she wants to keep her here another week just to be sure they're not leukemia. She'll do another bone marrow biopsy Monday, which should give definitive results.

Lanie did get to go outside for a little while and get some fresh air. Here are a few recent pictures!

So it seems lanie is doing a little better. It doesn't seem like her because she's sleeping more to me each day than she ever had before. Anyway, she says she feels better. Her rash is definitely getting better. Dr. B said a soon as her neutrophils come up, she will do the bone marrow biopsy and scan again to see if she needs more chemo. So it may not be exactly Monday. Her liver function seems better today as well.
