Medical Costs for Mark Fitzsimmons

The week before Thanksgiving 2016, we got the news that Mark was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal cancer.  After many doctor visits, tests, poking and prodding we decided to seek treatment at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital.  After a few more tests we found the cancer had metastasized to his liver.  This changed the plan from a course of radiation chemo and surgery to a full 24 weeks of Chemo Therapy.

After four treatments the scan showed much improvement, and the treatment continues.  It’s now been eight treatments and another scan is scheduled for April 3. 

Mark is tolerating the treatment pretty well, as well as someone can tolerate being poisoned.  He’s staying active and managing as best as anyone could hope.

Unfortunately, the out of pocket expenses are piling up, and it’s proving too much for Mark and Denise with just the Denise’s income and Marks limited benefit.

 

We hate to have to resort t this, but we are stuck between not having enough money to pay the mounting bills, and having just enough income to keep us from qualifying to receive any benefit.
