The summer of 2016 we got the most amazing news.. My sister was gonna have another baby! A beautiful little girl they decided to name Emma Kate. A precious name for the most precious baby girl..
In October of 2016 it felt like our world was turned upside down. Emma Kate was gonna be born with a severe congenital heart defect. But we had the most amazing team of doctors preparing for her arrival.
Emma Kate made her grand arrival on March 14th 2017. Man was she picture perfect. But her fight had just began. My sister Jessica and brother in law Chan began their new life’s as heart parents.
7 months old and after 3 open heart surgeries and a pacemaker and many other procedures, she started getting sicker. The doctors thought it was just reflux. But we found out our beautiful little Emma Kate is in heart failure. This was definitely something we never dreamed we would hear. Then the dreaded words possible heart transplant knocked us off our feet.
Emma Kate is currently in CICU in Atlanta where the doctors are running tests and have her on medicine to improve her heart function. Today we got new that she is starting to respond well to this medicine but she is no where near in the clear. The doctors have told us that if she responds well, can tolerate her feeds( through feeding tube) and they can wean her off oxygen again then she may can go home. If she can’t then our next step will be a possible heart tranplant. The doctors are trying hard not to have to go this route just yet with her being so small.
My sister Jessica is unable to work right now trying to care for our brave heart warrior and her beautiful 3 other children. Medical bills are starting to roll in and caring for a family of 6 on a police officers pay is taking its toll. Anything would be most greatly appreciated and especially prayers.. Thank you soo much in advance. It means the world to our family.
