Montrose County School District has an after-school program that serves students from kindergarten to 5th grade. It gives them a safe, structured and positive environment to go to after school. It gives them something productive to do between school getting out and mom and dad getting off work. We all know how critical it is that kids have a positive and safe place to go after school. The alternative is hanging out in the park, at home alone or with friends.
The program offers alot of different options for the kids to join; from homework help and tutoring to STEM based activities and classes. The program is very popular with parents and students. Kids from all over Montrose come to the program. They show an improvement in their grades and behavior at school and parents can rest easy that their child is safe and learning.
The challenge is that to keep the program running, families have to pay tuition. We try to minimize the costs as much as possible to take this burden off our families but there is only so much we can do and still keep the doors open. As you can image, it can be costly to operate a program like this so we have to charge tuition.
This is where you can help out. We are creating a scholarship fund for needy families who want their child to attend the program but can't afford the costs. Money raised will be put into an account and a list of students needed assistance will be created. Then based on need, we will award scholarships. Our goal is to raise at least $2000 which will allow several students to attend the program a few days a week for the rest of the school year. Any money above this original amount will go towards more students attending the program.
