Spread STEM by building a solar car
Donation protected
I recently helped start the MBHS Engineering Club, which hopes to teach engineering through hands-on experience and build ties between Magnet and non-magnet students with unique and enjoyable learning experiences. I would like to offer interested students more opportunities to explore the field of engineering that are not offered by other clubs and classes through unique competitions.
The major competition we plan on participating in is the 2019 Solar Car Challenge, an international high school solar car racing competition. However, given the financially burdensome nature of this project, we must find various ways to raise funds. As we are a newly founded club, we have not participated in previous competitions and are not eligible for many grants, but we have applied to as many grants as possible, in hopes that we will be able to raise enough money to start construction soon. We have also conducted local bake sales to help cover costs of basic prototyping materials, but are still in need of major financial assistance. All money raised from donations will be used for materials such as solar panels, batteries, and transportation and storage expenses. Currently, we are the only solar car team in the Greater DC region, so donations will help us greatly in getting started, as well as help spur development and talk about green energies in the region, which may be especially important in the current day and age.
These products or services are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Montgomery County Board of Education, the superintendent of schools, or this school.
All donations go to the Montgomery Blair High School Engineering Club (Mr. John Kaluta).
Any amount of donation is highly appreciated, thank you so much in advance!
