Maya Mae & Puppies

Donation protected

On June 21st Carol Rappaport rushed her Vizsla girl into the vet at 2am due to vomiting and lethargy. Maya was 50+ days pregnant with her 1st litter.  Upon getting to the vet Maya went from sick to critical very quickly.   The doctors began to try to stabilize Maya and figure out what was going on.  They quickly determined it was some type of an obstruction and she would need to be transferred to a specialty surgical hospital in NJ as quickly as possible.  They got Maya ready for transport and Carol left for the hour long trip to NJ - due to the poor weather conditions and rush hour traffic the trip took Carol nearly 2hrs.  Maya was immediately rushed in by the waiting Surgical team the moment Carol arrived.  They began working on Maya who had taken a turn for the worse during the car trip.   The repro specialist and surgical team quickly determined Maya had a Uterine torsion which also involved her Intestine.  It was discovered that Maya was carrying 15 puppies.  Maya was in critical condition and they were giving her medication, fluids, etc to get her ready for surgery.  Maya unfortunately continued to crash, having to be revived.  She showed mild improvement but then started a downward spiral again.  Sadly this downward spiral was not one they could bring her back from and Carol made the heartbreaking decision to let her go.  Unfortunately due to the puppies only being approx 50-51 days they would never be able to survive outside of the womb.  Their heart rates were quickly dropping or had already faded with the stress of what Maya was going through so all 15 puppies were lost too.

This is an absolutely horrible experience no pet owner or breeder should ever have to go through.  Maya was not just a dog or a show dog,  she was a loved family member of the Rappaport-Davis household.  She had a 6yr old who just adored her as well as the rest of the family & friends.  Maya & her "Moto's"  will forever be in our hearts

This type of crisis is nothing anyone is prepared for.  Thanks to an Anonymous Donor over 1/2 of Maya's veterinary bill has already been paid.  This gofundme is just for the remaining balance of veterinary bills.
