Maves Teaching in Cambodia

Donation protected
I am so excited to inform you that I will be going to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I will be teaching English for six months, starting November 21, 2017, at New Life Fellowship School. This school sets out to raise a generation of children equipped with knowledge, skills, good character, and a genuine love for the Lord. Ultimately, their goal is to prepare these children to build up the local church and to encourage positive change in Cambodian society. I will be renting an apartment close to the school and commuting every day, via moped.

My weekly schedule will see me teaching daytime and evening English classes. On some days I will be teaching English to students 12-14 years of age, and on other days I will be providing English classes for adults in the evenings. I will be creating my own lesson plans for both and then presenting them to my various classes. This will give the full-time teachers a break as well as provide variety for the students as they learn English. My desire is to not only effectively teach the English language to my students, but also to make the lessons interesting and exciting. I aspire to see my students succeed and achieve their goals. I want them to know that the sky is the limit, and they can achieve anything if they set their minds to the task.

This will be an amazing experience for me as my future career goals include teaching English as a full-time teacher. It will be a challenge; however, because Cambodia’s native tongue is Khmer, and I only speak English. I am in the process of learning some Khmer right now, but this has proven to be a difficult task. My aim is to learn the basics which will provide the necessary functioning skills within the country. All present teachers at the school speak English and can aid in translation, eliminating any confusion between the students and myself. Undoubtedly, there will be challenging times as I have never taught a class of 30-40 students, not to mention a class which does not speak fluent English. I embrace these challenges; though, and I am looking forward to "taking the bull by the horns."

Altogether, I am teaching English at New Life Fellowship school, starting on November 21, 2017 as a volunteer staff member. I appreciate all your prayers and any financial support that you feel led to provide :)

Blessings Jonathan!!!
