6 stages, 7 days - Self-supported footrace - 250km
My name is Valérie Gagné, I am 24 years old, I am from Morin-Heights, Qc, Canada and I am an ultra-marathoner.
From May 14th to May 20th 2017, I will participate in the biggest race of my entire athletic career: Mauna2Mauna! It is the first edition of the race and will be presented by the organizers of the renowned Grand2Grand Ultra. The iconic course will take the competitors through Hawaii's Kona island, the remotest archipelago in the world and an ideal location for a stage race - tough and varied terrain, beauty, the world’s tallest and largest mountains, the world’s most active volcano, and 11 of the world’s 13 climate zones. I will join the 99 other competitors that have been selected to live this athletic and human adventure.
In 2014, I completed an expedition where I ran a marathon a day for 6 consecutive days in the Atacama Desert in Chile with the impossible2Possible organization with a mission to educate, inspire and empower students from all over the world to make a positive change in the world. Since then, I run long distances with the goal to constantly push back my perceived limits. In 2015, I competed in races ranging from 65km to 100km, placing 2nd in Canada in the ''Ultra Running Race Series'' in my age group. In 2016, I switched my focus to more personal challenges, completing the Adirondack Great Range Traverse - 3rd hardest day-hike in the United States.
The funds raised through this campaign will help pay for the race registration - which in itself is close to 5000$ CAD. The rest will help pay for flight expenses and purchase of specific mandatory equipment.
