Matt's Brave Battle

Donation protected
The courageous Matthew Campbell, 10 years old, was recently diagnosed with Thalamic Glioma, a very rare brain tumor with a mass larger than the size of a golf ball. Matt is receiving aggressive chemotherapy treatments in hopes of shrinking the tumor. Due to the location of the tumor in the center of his brain, surgery is the last resort, but ultimately may be what he will need. In three months time, doctors will assess the tumor and determine if the chemo is working. If not, surgery will be performed.

One major complication Matt is experiencing, is that the tumor is located in his thalamus, the major processing and relaying center for sensory information traveling between the body and the cerebral cortex. It also plays a role in movement. Because of this, Matt is experiencing tremors and a loss of feeling and movement in the left side of his body. This will continue to get worse if the chemotherapy is not effective in shrinking the tumor. The loss of feeling, and the sickness and exhaustion after chemo treatments, will significantly affect his ability to enjoy his usual activities (which includes his love of sports--both as an athlete and an avid fan of his favorite teams). His frustration is heartbreaking, although he tries not to let it show.

Traveling to the children's hospital in Oakland at UCSF, and to Renown in Reno, NV, will take a toll physically, emotionally and financially on his parents, Gary, a police officer, and Leslie, a school teacher, along with their four boys. The medical expenses, travel expenses, deductibles, pharmaceutical expenses, and necessary physical and occupational therapy are already beginning to pile up on the family.

The family requests your prayers for Matt and for the treatments to work and heal his body. In addition, helping them with this financial burden while they fight this fight with Matt would be a tremendous blessing for them! People always want to know what they can do to help those that are going through tough times, and this is a tangible way to help--by giving monetarily to the Campbell family. We will keep you all updated on Matt's treatment. May God continue to bless him with courage on this difficult journey as he fights for his life, and may God also grant him peace and complete healing.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
