Our lifelong friend, Cynthia, has a son, Matthew (41 yrs old), who is very ill. He needs a liver transplant. His liver has already shut down and his kidneys aren’t the strongest either. They are trying to get him into the National Data Base for liver donors. The criteria is high and strict.
Cynthia's concerns: "I will do what has to be done but my head is spinning. Where will I sleep? Where will I eat? How many months will I be away? There are so many unanswered questions and each day something else happens for the good and sometimes bad. To say that I'm scared is an understatement." She has been going to the hospital in the morning and goes back after work. She's trying to maintain her routine and keep a positive focused attitude.
He has now been transported to Pittsburgh and Cynthia has taken a leave of absence from work to be with him. He will not have to face this alone - No parent should ever have to face anything like this. There is nothing worse. She will not celebrating Christmas this year. Her days and nights are consumed with Matthew and his health. She is staying in a place that is $68 a day without meals and owes over $1800 for December alone and will probably need to be there through January or longer. She needs to eat and Matthew needs things. Also, his mortgage needs to be paid. He is very ill and needs the transplant but the procedure is stringent and complex. Not everyone gets one. Without the transplant he has 90 days till he dies.
Matthew also has a 6-yr old son (also named Matthew). Cynthia and Matthew have many good friends as a support. We need a miracle so if anyone has a pull with the big man in the clouds, please put in a good word for Matt. At this time all anyone can do for them is pray, pray, pray.
