Matt "Slamma Slamma" Turner

Donation protected
Matt and I went to school together, Middle Georgia College, he was one year ahead of me.   We met after we both signed contracts with the Atlanta Braves organization.

I don't believe that there is one guy who played with Matt that could  tell a story of something Matt did or said that he said that would not make them laugh or at the least put a smile on their face.  Matt was a huge part of our team throughout the years with great baseball character.   He kept the clubhouse loose with his antics - never a dull moment.

Matt was a tough competitor, a bulldog.  He would battle you and never give in.  You may have gotten the best of Matt one AB, but he would be coming at you your next plate appearance.  That is one thing I believe was a huge part of his success, he never backed down.

Matt was a fighter, never letting any battle take him down.  Well on Sunday Matt was able to stop fighting the hardest battle of his life - cancer.  This has been something that he has been fighting since 1993.

For those of you who knew him cancer stopped him from doing the one thing he loved, pitching.  Matt went through four bouts of cancer and won three of those times, never giving up.  I spoke to Matt a week and a half ago, he did not want me to say anything to anyone, so I kept his secret close to my heart. Now I am. He was a good man, fun, full of life and he will be greatly missed.  I am thankful I had the opportunity to know him, like many of you.

I would like everyone contribute to this gofundme page so that we can help Matt's family with any financial burdens that his passing may cause.  (Matt just buried his sister, spent everything he had to give her the burial she deserved). He would do if for us, so now its our time to step up to the plate for him.  I will make sure that all funds get to the Turner family.  We in the brotherhood need to contribute a minimum of $20 to help out.

Ann Turner Rankin is Matt's little sister.  She is the beneficiary of the funds that are being donated.  She will be handling all the affairs for our brothers funeral.

Matt you will be greatly missed.  Love you brother!  Good news is heaven just got a new closer.
