Matt Hess

As most of you may have heard Matthew Hess was in a severe accident while on an ATV trip in West Virginia with some of his close friends. He was air lifted to a level 1 hospital in Kentucky where he is being treated for a multitude of injuries. Because of the severity of the injuries, Matt remained in a critical state for several days. However, due to the dedicated work of an excellent medical staff and the outpouring of prayer and love from literally all around the world for Matts healing has made all the difference. He is now stable and has been improving more everyday.

Matt sustained injuries to his head, ribs, lungs, kidney, bladder, intestinal track, and multiple fractures to his spine. He underwent three emergency surgeries to stabilize his kidneys, bladder, intestinal track, lungs, and head trauma. During Matt’s fourth surgery the spinal team was able to successfully perform a spinal fusion of his lower back to fuse four vertebrate in order for his spine to begin the healing process. Unfortunately, this whole ordeal has left Matt in intensive care since the accident and the severity of injuries to Matt’s spine will place him in a wheel chair for the undetermined future as he battles paralysis from waist down. The next few months will require several other surgeries, round the clock medical care and constant rehabilitation.

Matt’s wife Kortni has been by his side throughout this whole ordeal, along with immediate family and close friends. As you can imagine this is even more difficult given that this is all taking place 10 hours from home with family and close friends helping to provide care and support to their three children. We are blessed for Matt to be with us, considering the extent of his injuries, but as most of you may realize the long-term impact of his injuries are going to present significant obstacles for both Matt and his family physically, emotionally, and financially.

There are going to be many changes that need to take place in the future, with insurance only covering so much. As many of you know medical bills for this type of accident can escalate quickly, not to mention all of the changes they are going to have to make to their lifestyle, including modifications to their house, transportation needs, home care, child care, and the countless other things needed to prepare for the road ahead.
