Support 'Mat the Marine's' Recovery

Corporal Mathew Swazey is a 21 year old Maine native serving with the USMC at Camp Pendleton near San Diego, California.   He's a great guy, a bit of a jokester, and he's my kid brother...which is why this is so difficult.

Mat is hurting right now, and he has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

He was returning from training--in the back of a '7 ton' Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR)--when the massive truck rolled over, severely wounding Mat and many other Marines. The impact killed one of Mat's friends.

Mat's injuries include a broken femur and hip, broken shoulder blades, broken ribs, cracked vertebrae, and a broken collarbone. He's in the ICU at a San Diego area hospital.

We don't know how long Mat's recovery is going to take. He's in good spirits most days, but we know he's in a lot of pain and this tough Marine needs all the support he can get.

That's why we're asking for your help.

We don't yet know what Mat will need moving forward.  He'll likely need assistance, help with daily living, etc., until he's fully recovered.  Once he's home, we'll also be building a ramp and first-floor living space for Mat while he recovers.

Also, our family lives in the Northeast--nowhere near his hospital in California, and we'd like to be able to have someone stay with him during his long recovery.  Our mom is a nurse and has to fly back to Maine soon so she can keep bringing in a paycheck for the family.  Our family would like to keep someone by Mat's side through this extremely difficult recovery.  Our heart aches for him--and we want to be there every step of the way.
