Help Us Fund our National Juried Exhibition “Material Matters: Breaking with Tradition”

We are members of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) and the curators of the national juried show “Material Matters”.  We are seeking funding for our 2018 art Exhibition, “Material Matters: Breaking with Tradition” which is open to artists 18 years of age or older from across the country who work in clay, glass, wood, metal or fiber/textile.  The exhibition will feature over 40+ selected artists’ works and provide the opportunity to have their work seen by the public, collectors and gallerists.

If you aren't familiar with it, the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition is the largest all artist run organization in New York, and has been supporting artists in Brooklyn and elsewhere for four decades, this year being its 40th year in operation.  The BWAC Gallery hosts about 12 shows during its six-month season from May to October, including member-only shows and thematic juried shows open to artists from across the country and around the world.  BWAC also offers art auctions and a performance series that includes music, films and the spoken word.  The 25,000 square-foot space, housed in a pre-Civil War warehouse, is located in the heart of the Red Hook Brooklyn community.  BWAC has always been, and continues to be, a unique venue that provides exposure to help advance the careers of emerging and established artists alike and showcases talent from across the United States.

While this all sounds ideal, and while we are fortunate to have received a small amount of support from the BWAC organization, the reality is it costs a lot of money to produce a high quality show in New York.  In order to mount the “Material Matters” show this fall we must raise $5,000.

This money will be used for:

Honorarium for Juror
Monetary awards for the three best artworks in the show
Exhibition space expenses (e.g., electricity, lighting equipment, paint, pedestals, shelving)
Promotional materials, marketing, etc.
Printing expenses (exhibition catalog,  posters, postcards, etc.)
Publicity
This is a one-time fundraiser that is intended to demonstrate support from the broader artist and patron community for "material" artists whose work has been and should continue to be featured at the BWAC Gallery.

Whether you can chip in $5 or $50 - it all adds up!  We appreciate any support you are willing to provide.  To show our gratitude, we offer you the following in gratitude:

We will be listing the names of anyone who donates at any level as a Sponsor in the “Material Matters: Breaking with Tradition” exhibition catalog.

Donations are tax deductible.  Any donation amount helps!

If you believe that art matters and has an important role in people’s lives and in our culture, if you think art has the power to change lives, then consider making a donation to our GoFundMe campaign to help us produce “Material Matters: Breaking with Tradition”.

We thank you again for your contribution!

With Gratitude,

The Curators - Susan Handwerker, Tiziana Mazziotto, Janet Rothholz
