Massachusetts Walking Tour 2016

Bringing Arts to Trail Communities Throughout the Commonwealth!

Since 2010, co-founders Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards have organized an annual bipedal concert tour of Massachusetts in support of arts and culture for towns throughout the state, known as the Massachusetts Walking Tour. Every year the tour offers free community concerts in collaboration with local artists, musicians, educational programs, trail managers and land trust groups to highlight both the arts and recreation.

People still ask "so you actually walk?" YES, with our instruments, and camping gear, to each and every show - and after 8-13 miles of hiking roads and trailways, we perform a concert. 

This year we are giving you an opportunity to support the Massachusetts Walking Tour through our  June 2016 Cape Cod and South Coast Bikeway trek! By raising $5,000, we will cover the cost of this year’s tour and have some start-up funds for 2017. 

The Massachusetts Walking Tour has been a labor of love for us and we have great pride in the connections forged between the communities we have visited - their local musicians, artists, poets and trailways volunteers. We have been incredibly fortunate to initiate a dialogue in many of these towns about how to share and preserve the arts while making them accessible to all. The MWT has also served as a conduit for trailways organizations to find support, volunteers and general outreach - connecting with local folks who will enjoy these trailways and hopefully provide stewardship for them for years to come.  


Your contribution to the Massachusetts Walking Tour 2016 Cape Cod and South Coast Bikeway trek will support:

* artwork supplied by Somerville resident artist Dan Blakeslee

* printing of 11X17 posters to be distributed regionally

* printing of 5X8 postcards to be distributed at all participating venues

* travel stipend for promotional volunteers

* necessary gear acquisitions (2016 needs include 1 pair ladies hiking boots and rain gear)

* tour stipend for MWT performers
